Women Rising 2015

The Life House is proud to present Woman Rising 2015 in special celebration of International Womens Day (IWD).  The Life House is an art, culture & lifestyle concept that offers an alternative social experience for residents in Lagos. WOMAN RISING is an integral arts development and performance event at the core of The Life House‘s women’s development vision and was designed to further buttress the mission of community development and capacity building through music and musicianship. This year’s event tagged Woman Rising 2015 is the 5th in the IWD celebration series, which The Life House began in 2011. Over the past five years, The Life House IWD celebration series have infused various aspects of arts such as literature, visual art, dance, film etc. and this year we are delighted to retain that tradition.

Everyone present at the event can expect to have an exciting time and an opportunity to celebrate the arts through the works of amazing women globally. It is also a time to network and get acquainted with women from all walks of life!

“This year’s music and arts weekender is especially important as it marks our 5th anniversary but also a pivotal time in our nation’s cultural, social and political development. It is our very intention that WOMAN RISING 2015 will uplift, inspire, entertain, educate and energize all who attend and leave them in much better stead than before this multi-faceted cultural weekend experience” says founder of Woman Rising, Ugoma Adegoke.

Woman Rising 2015 is scheduled to hold on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of March 2015 at the Wheatbaker, Ikoyi and Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island respectively.

The two-day event kicks off with an invite only Champagne Breakfast taking place at The Wheatbaker followed by a Special Screening of “The Supreme Price,” an award-winning film by Joanna Lipper inspired by women and featuring Hafsat Abiola. The weekend ends with an all-star female cast Music Concert with performances by Nigerian voices Tonye, Modele, Ruby Gyang and Bumi Thomas (UK) who do amazing work with infusing sounds of world into a medley of electric musical performances. Classical jazz pianist Rolake Akinkugbe, will also lead an all female jazz ensemble with an original medley and acclaimed spoken word artist Titiliope Sonuga shall give some poetic lyrical energy to flow through the night.  The concert will be hosted by multi-talented thespian Lala Akindoju and Smooth 98.1 FM’s delectable Aderonke Adebanjo with exciting & inspiring reading interludes (by our city’s most charismatic and art-loving men) and a few surprise appearances.
