Culture Diaries Meets Artist and Writer Victor Ehikhamenor

Victor Ehikhamenor has to be one of the most dynamic and prolific visual artists i have gotten the opportunity to get close to. And i almost forgot very stylish too. Victor is a painter, sculptor, photographer, writer and satirist. His work has been known and characterised by his large scale labyrinths which has been described in many circles as ethnocentric. I have always loved Victor’s work and we have collaborated on a few occasions as well. But i think what i really like about Victor is that he takes his work seriously but not himself and isn’t blind to the commercial and accessible value of his creativity. He is constantly exploring interesting ways for individuals to consume art whether its collaborating with fashion designer Ituen Bassey on her Ekemini collection or his social media campaign during the 2015 presidential elections themed ‘Oil not blood’ or his disruptive large scale installations at the Jogja bianalle in Indonesia. Victor Ehikhamenor is as on his toes as he keeps his audiance. This year he will be quite busy undertaking numerous residencies and exhibitions. So i guess i was really lucky to have this one on one with him just before the globetrotting kicked off.
