It has been just over a month since the release of my sophomore poetry album ‘In memory of forgetting’ and i have to say the reviews and feedback have been deeply overwhelming. Often times when you are creating work you aren’t so conscious of how it will be received until you finally throw it into the world and that comes with its own set of anxieties. But i am very happy that many people are connecting with this project in a very personal way.
I finally got round to making a video for one of the poems titled ’20’. 20 is a poem about love, sensuality and female sexual agency. It was a poem that celebrated love in the present and the future. A kind of affirming love that is intentional and insisted upon.
After recording the poem i had an image of a woman moving around in front of a camera very care free with her lover peering through the lens. With the help of some dear friends of mine that include the director Niyi ‘XYZ’ Faleyimu, cinematographer Samuel ‘Psalmurai’ Achema, and assisting in other technical duties was Ben ‘Benhilly’ Jituboh, we were able to bring this to life.
It was a no brainer to have my friend and frequent collaborator Folu Ogunkeye( Folu Storms) as the star of the video. She is always a treat to work with as she brings 110% into every project. Plus she is stunning in front of the camera. Her brief was care free African black girl magic and she brought all the magic and so much more. I hope you enjoy watching the work as much as we enjoyed making it.
